Little Blue Truck: My Son’s Favorite Kid’s Book (and Mine Too!)
Can we all agree that our kid’s bookshelf can never be too full? While there seems to be too many toys scattered around my house at all hours, I’m never anything but happy to add a new book to my son’s collection. Still, some children’s books are clearly better than others, and I’m here to tell you Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle is the best I’ve found.
This is my go-to book for little boys, especially between the ages of 18 and 24 months, when most boys I know have one reaction to trucks: SHEER GLEE. It’s about a (little blue) truck who is friendly with all the animals across town. He takes his time to say hello as he drives along. Then, a big, rude dump truck comes barreling down the road, and he’s much too busy to be nice to any animal along the way. That is until he finds himself stuck in the mud and in need of some help.
It’s a great book, with a catchy story and a really sweet message to be kind to everyone, even if you think you’re too important to take the time. My son, Kyle, has read this enough times that he’s got it nearly memorized, but we still enjoy it each night. It’s a great deal at just under $7 if you buy it as a board book, which I’d suggest doing during those destructive toddler years!
As a gift or just as a surprise for your own little guy, Little Blue Truck is a must-read.

I LOVE that book! We picked it up kind of randomly for a gift (for a one-year-old girl) and my son had a hard time letting it go (and, fine, I did too).

I bought this book based SOLELY on Jennie’s endorsement at her personal blog, and I love it! My son, however, is going through an anti-book phase these days (sigh), so I’ve yet to get him into it, but *I* think it’s one he’ll love for years to come.
